Read here about our campaigning on swimming and other matters concerning the Ladies Pond and Hampstead Heath. Thanks to everyone who supported and contributed financially to our legal campaign to fight discriminatory charges for swimming on Hampstead Heath.
The Kenwood Ladies’ Pond Association (KLPA) is a voluntary organization of women who care about the pond. Its main aims are:
- To represent the views of pond users to the authority responsible for Hampstead Heath. To this end, please note that we are opposed to the Corporation of the City of London’s decision to impose massively increased charges and enforce payment at all the swimming ponds (for more about this see here).
- To promote the interests of users of the pond.
- To cooperate with staff in the proper running and maintenance of the pond so that it may continue to be a quiet, peaceful place for women and girls to visit, swim and relax.
The KLPA is independent of the City of London and the Hampstead Heath management. It is run on a purely voluntary basis for and by pond users, there are no paid staff. Officers and the committee are elected annually at the AGM, which is usually held in March.
Our priority is to preserve the pond with its peaceful, natural qualities and to maintain it as a women’s swimming place. Occasionally this means we need to lobby or campaign.
Otherwise, we exist to provide information and encourage women to enjoy the pond. We produce a newsletter for members about three times a year and organise a variety of events for fun, including a festive swim at midday on New Year’s Day.
Membership is open to all women and the annual subscription is £5.00.
